After one Spokane man heard about a homeless man being shot and killed by police just a block away from the House of Charity, he is encouraging compassion.

Rick Clark works often with the homeless population, giving out backpacks and toiletries. It’s a cause close to his heart.

“It was something that’s part of me. So when I saw that, it felt that a family member had been shot,” Clark says about hearing news of the shooting.

Clark spoke up after seeing negative comments about both police and homeless people about the shooting, and he is now asking the community to come together.

“There’s no reason to point fingers at this point. It’s just pick up what’s broken and start fixing it,” he says.
