78-year-old Zag fan finally gets his ticket to the Kennel
SPOKANE, Wash. – After spending the last 3 years trying to score tickets to a Gonzaga men’s basketball game, Richard Schaffer learned there would be a seat for him Tuesday night inside the Kennel – all thanks to an anonymous donor who was touched by a post on Facebook.
The 78-year-old has been a Zags fan for decades but when his wife died 6 years ago, watching the games on TV became rather lonely.
“It was tough, but we go on with our lives,” Schaffer said. “She’s in a better place.”
Schaffer (or Skeeter) as his neighbors call him, lives alone with no family in Spokane. Ever since his wife passed away, his neighbor, Jeannine Burns, has walked across the street to watch the game.
“And then we sit here and shot together,” Burns said. “Yes, we scream at the TV.”
